Diffusing Power

I agree with Rita that teachers need to encourage students. This makes students feel like the teachers care about them and want them to succeed. Teachers must also be supportive of the students interests, needs and values. Teachers should create opportunities where students can thrive and discover their interests and needs. Although all learners have different needs, teachers should try to create various activities for everyone's needs. When students know their teachers are supporting their interests and needs, students continue to push themselves to do better. By empowering students, they feel like they belong to the class and it helps reduce power struggles in the class. I feel power struggles occur when students want to gain power, but if students are engaged in the class and feel a sense of belonging, they wouldn't need have power. So teachers need to continue to provide positive and supportive environments for students so they can feel empowered, be able to thrive and succeed in class and discover new interests and values.
