Empowerment and Diffusing Power

Creating a safe classroom space is the first step for students to be empowered. A safe classroom is where all students feel comfortable in contributing to the class and feel that they are valued. To create a safe classroom is is essential that teachers encourage discussion and appreciate all contributions. Encouragment helps get all personality types involved and wanting to participate. Cooperative learning as B & S discuss is a great way to empower students because students can work together and have time for reflection before they share their ideas allowing introverts extroverts to be involved. When students are struggling encouraging them to achieve their goals helps them feel empowered and now defeated. Facilitate power by making students responsible for their own behaviours, or be accountable for their own work such as using planners in the classroom which means that they are responsible. empowerment is about fostering and nurturing resonsible students. Empowerment is about giving students the tools to make good choices such as promoting good behaviour such as anti-bullying programs.

For teachers to diffusing Power between teachers and students it is important that students take responsibility for their actions. Instead of having a teacher telling the students to stay on task continually for students have difficulties with attention, implenting a program where they keep track of their attention progress puts the power of their behaviour on them and encourages them to improve. With student to student power struggles is is important to teach students social and behaviour managment they can learn to solve problems that they face with peers.
