Evaluation

When I think of evaluations, I think of the basic evaluations such as exams or papers. I feel that teachers use these evaluations because it is the easiest way to evaluate students, but these techniques don't address different learning styles which I find to be a problem. There are different learners and when they are being evaluated, their learning types are not acknowledged. For example, there are many students who are not good with exams, but are great with presentations. But if students aren't given a chance to show that they understand the material through a different evaluation, they are stuck with a technique that doesn't show their potential. So teachers should have a variety of evaluations and try to incorporate the different learning types in order for all students to be successful and thrive in school.

Also, most of the time a grade is given, but that doesn't tell a student anything except for if they are doing well or not. This leads me to my next point on effective feedback. As Mamchur suggested teachers have to make effective comments and feedback that will be helpful for the students. I feel comments are extremely helpful for students because it will thelp them understand what they need to improve on for the future, but teachers must actually put the time and effort in to making effective comments. Comments like good job don't help students learn anything about the assignment.

All in all, teachers need to have a variety of evaluations and should not just stick with the easy techniques. This will help students from different learning types show their abilities and help them succeed in school because they are not only being evaluated through the basic techniques, but through presentations, art work etc. Also, teachers have to give students effective feedback to help students learn and improve for the future.
