When the student’s behavior becomes extreme, the teacher has to react, to deal differently with the challenging student, and to set limits for student’s behavior. Otherwise, the teacher will certainly lose his/her classroom management. On the other side, the student has to know he/she has gone beyond his/her limits; so, the intervention of the principal is the best way to made him/her aware of the seriousness of the case. In this situation, a behavior contract gives the students, once again, the chance to choose to change his behavior or to accept the response to his/her choice, and the consequences of his/her decision.
Indeed, it’s very important to act step by step carefully and meticulously to attain the desired result that is the improvement of the student’s behavior. So, the behavior contract must be efficiently structured and feasible, and must clearly identify the consequences of the student’s bad choice. As far as the involved parties are concerned, they should remember that they are not gathered to boycott the student but to help him/her to improve his/her behavior. Also, it’s crucial that the principal, the teacher, and the parents feel to be all part of the same team that must support each other (especially they must support the teacher). This process has to be followed-up to insure involves parties about the student’s progress, and engage student in his/her own growth and development
